Racial tensions are running high between the White and the Mexican residents of Furlough, Texas, a border town known as the “Goat Capital of the World”. Anna and her bored high school friends band together, ready to plot their escape from their suffocating little town until, a savage attacker preys on the inhabitants, -first the goats, then the humans. The local, half-witted cops think it’s a coyote, but Anna and her friends believe the murders are the signature killings of the legendary Latin American urban myth - "El Chupacabra" or Mexican werewolf!

While the bigoted town elders hope the attacks scare the “Mexies” into leaving Furlough, Anna’s father takes advantage of the crisis by cooking up a wacky plot to breakup her relationship with Miguel. The teenagers, however, see it as an opportunity to ride “fame and fortune” far out of town! So, they contact an “alien hunter” to help trap the blood-sucking creature.

LAS VEGAS WEEKLY
2006 Festival of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror and the Supernatural

Josh Bell: "The key to success in this genre, as far as I can tell, comes down to one thing: Be funny. My two favorite films at the festival, Scott Maginnis' Mexican Werewolf in Texas and Philip Creager's Death by Engagement, both have high doses of humor along with their gore, and the sharp writing goes a long way toward encouraging forgiveness for rudimentary special effects. Mexican Werewolf is funny and well-acted and even has a dose of social commentary."

Cinevegas Blog / Animation Magazine: "On the live-action side, one of the better entries was a feature titled A Mexican Werewolf in Texas, a tongue-in-cheek flick about a small border town terrorized by the mythical Chupacabra. Well made on a low budget by director by Scott Maginnis, the film is surprisingly character driven and features some fun rubber creature effects also created by Maginnis."
